Renalfa IPP has completed the repowering and hybridisation of its Devnya photovoltaic (PV) plant in northeastern Bulgaria, increasing its solar capacity from 5 MWp to 65 MWp and adding a co-located battery energy storage system (BESS).
The Devnya PV plant, which has been operational since 2011, now has an installed solar capacity of 65 MWp following the repowering. The project has also been integrated with a 60 MW/165 MWh BESS.
Solarpro Bulgaria served as the project manager and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project.
The project forms part of Renalfa IPP’s strategy to maximise existing grid connection capacity by combining solar generation with co-located battery storage. The company said the hybrid configuration is intended to optimise generation profiles and enable the sale of green baseload products.
The Devnya project follows the repowering and hybridisation of Renalfa IPP’s Kaolinovo PV plant in northeastern Bulgaria, completed in November 2025. The Kaolinovo project was expanded from 10 MWp to 60 MWp and integrated with a 33 MW/110 MWh BESS.
Renalfa IPP is an Austrian joint venture between Renalfa Solarpro Group, a Vienna-based clean energy and e-mobility company, and French renewable energy infrastructure fund manager RGREEN INVEST.
The company currently has more than 806 MW of operational renewable generation capacity and over 1 GWh of operational energy storage across Central and Eastern Europe.
In addition, Renalfa IPP has more than 1.1 GW of renewable generation projects and over 3.5 GWh of BESS projects in the final stages of construction and development.
The company is active across Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
