Longroad Energy, a leading U.S.-based renewable energy developer, has officially commenced construction on Sun Streams 4, a monumental project set to revolutionize solar and storage capabilities in Maricopa County, AZ. With a remarkable capacity of 377 MWdc PV and 300 MWac / 1200 MWh storage, Sun Streams 4 represents Longroad’s most ambitious renewable energy endeavor to date. Anticipated to be operational by mid-2025, this project is poised to significantly enhance Arizona’s renewable energy landscape.
Distinguished as Longroad’s largest project by both megawatts and investment capital, Sun Streams 4 is a testament to the company’s unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions. The project’s substantial output, capable of powering 120,000 homes, underscores its vital role in bolstering system reliability, particularly during peak demand periods.
Paul Gaynor, CEO of Longroad Energy, lauded the significance of Sun Streams 4 within the Arizona market, highlighting its strategic milestones and collaborative partnerships with entities like Arizona Public Service (APS) and U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance. In addition to Sun Streams 4, Longroad’s Sun Streams portfolio includes Sun Streams 2 and Sun Streams 3, acquired from First Solar in 2021. First Solar will supply Longroad with its cutting-edge Series 6 Plus solar modules for Sun Streams 4, reinforcing their longstanding collaboration in advancing renewable energy technologies.
The financing for Sun Streams 4, led by CIBC and supported by a consortium of financial institutions, reflects a collective commitment to environmental sustainability and renewable energy initiatives. Over 200 employment opportunities are expected to be created during the construction phase, contributing to economic growth in the region.
McCarthy Building Companies has been appointed as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for Sun Streams 4, further solidifying Longroad’s dedication to quality and efficiency in project execution. The project’s battery energy storage system (BESS), provided by Powin, will be integrated with state-of-the-art technology to optimize energy storage capabilities.
Sun Streams 4’s design incorporates wildlife corridors to protect native species habitat, aligning with Longroad’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Over its operational lifespan, the project is projected to generate over $100 million in revenue for Arizona schools and communities, underscoring its long-term socio-economic benefits.
