Aberdeen-based Global Consulting and Engineering Company Wood completes Solar PV project in Oman. It will help turn the hot desert sun of Oman into renewable energy for a ferrochrome production plant.
Wood said that the development would displace gas-fired power and save more than 25,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually while annoucing the completion of its part of Oman Shellโs first utility-scale, photovoltaic (PV) solar project in the Middle East.
The Qabas solar plant, consisting of more than 80,000 PV panels, is in the Sohar Freezone in northern Oman.
Joe Sczurko, executive president of Woodโs consulting business, said โWood is focused on supporting its clients through the global energy transition. This milestone project supports Shellโs sustainability goals, aligns with Omanโs Vision 2040, and advances the sultanateโs national economic ambition.โ
