India, Mauritius to Jointly Inaugurate 8 MW Solar PV Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth will jointly inaugurate the India-assisted Social Housing Units project in Mauritius virtually on 20 January, 2022.

The two dignitaries will also launch the Civil Service College and 8 MW Solar PV Farm projects in Mauritius that are being undertaken under India’s development support.

A Memorandum of Understanding will be exchanged to extend a $190 million line of credit from India to Mauritius for the Metro Express project and other infrastructure projects and to implement smaller development projects, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

Mauritius is an important part of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and New Delhi has extended support to a wide range of projects in the African island nation. India also supported Mauritius in the early stages of the corona pandemic by providing vaccines and medical supplies.

Earlier this month Mauritius had Launched Solar PV Systems for Domestic Customers and Charging of EVs.
