Tripura’s government has a plan to supply electricity in 80 villages that are not economically able, with micro-solar plants. The cost will be one crore per village, Deputy Chief Minister holding the portfolio of power Jishnu Dev Varma said on Saturday.
The state government also established a separate company to improve the power generation infrastructure and harness its potential, he added.
Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd built more than 50 power substations to strengthen the power distribution system. This has reduced transmission losses and provided quality power supply for end users.
However, as 62 percent of the state’s land is covered in forest, it has proved difficult to supply electricity to its interior. Therefore, a plan was developed to look for non-conventional power sources to lighten those habitations.
