HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), welcomed HE Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), at DEWA’s Head Office. This is part of a series of mutual visits aimed at enhancing joint cooperation between government organisations in the UAE. The meeting aimed to enhance cooperation between the two sides and learn about DEWA’s best international experiences and practices.
Al Tayer welcomed Al Olama, emphasising the importance of consolidating cooperation and integration between the two sides across the clean and renewable energy and water sectors. This supports the directives of the wise leadership of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote the UAE’s global leadership in all areas.
During the meeting, Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s key projects to achieve the vision of wise leadership in providing a state-of-the-art infrastructure according to the highest international standards. DEWA’s current capacity has reached 14,617 megawatts (MW) of electricity and 490 Million Imperial Gallons per Day (MIGD) of desalinated water. DEWA is also working to increase the capacity of the transmission and distribution networks.
Al Tayer also discussed DEWA’s sustainable and clean energy projects to implement the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of Dubai’s total power production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. One of the critical projects DEWA is implementing to achieve this goal is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with a planned capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030. The solar park’s current production capacity is 2,127 MW. This is around 14.6% of the total production capacity of electricity in Dubai.
HE Sharif Al Olama applauded DEWA’s efforts in advancing the water and energy sectors and highlighted its key role in scaling up the country’s renewables and clean energy capacity, as well as developing innovative ways to enhance water and energy efficiency, which contributed to enhancing the UAE’s global leadership in these areas.

Such meetings are key to support our energy objectives for the next 50 years, step up environmental sustainability and natural resource preservation efforts, drive climate action, and strengthen the UAE’s position as a leading country in environmental protection and carbon footprint reduction,” said Al Olama
“The Ministry works relentlessly to develop projects and initiatives that help enhance the sustainability of the energy sector, in line with the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, which represents a national drive to decarbonize our sectors and become climate neutral by 2050,” added Al Olama.
