Exploring SOFAR’s New Smart Factory: Where Technology and Sustainability Converge

SOFAR, a global leader in providing photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage solutions, has recently inaugurated the first phase of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Huizhou, China. This expansion marks a significant increase in the company’s production capacity and underscores its commitment to advanced manufacturing techniques.

The initial phase of the new factory spans over 110,000 square meters and required an investment of nearly CNY 800 million. It is equipped with cutting-edge technology and top-notch equipment, enabling SOFAR to produce high-quality solar inverters and energy storage systems at an accelerated pace, better meeting the growing demand for intelligent energy solutions worldwide. The second phase of the factory is anticipated to be operational by 2024, with an annual manufacturing capacity projected to exceed 3 million units, including 2 million grid-connected inverters, 0.6 million hybrid inverters, and 0.6 million batteries.

In addition to serving as a manufacturing hub, the factory places a strong emphasis on automation, achieving an industry-leading automation coverage of 70%. The facility boasts an automatic three-dimensional warehousing system that utilizes Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV), Water Spider, and lift systems to transport components to production lines. To handle repetitive and hazardous tasks such as soldering, greasing, and accessory packaging, SOFAR has implemented unmanned production procedures.

In its pursuit of sustainability, the smart factory incorporates energy-efficient lighting and packaging solutions. It also plans to install solar panels on the rooftop, which is expected to generate 1 million kWh of clean electricity annually to power the factory’s operations. Furthermore, the factory employs Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) to digitize and streamline production, logistics, and warehousing management, contributing to the overall digital transformation of manufacturing and the supply chain.
