As the Atlantic hurricane season officially begins on June 1, Entergy Texas is continuing its year-round efforts to strengthen the electric grid, enhance storm response capabilities, and improve system resilience across Southeast Texas. While hurricane season lasts only a few months, the company emphasizes that preparation for severe weather is a continuous process that involves infrastructure investments, operational planning, employee training, and proactive maintenance activities throughout the year.

Meteorological forecasts for the 2026 hurricane season predict 13 named storms, including six hurricanes, with two expected to reach major hurricane status as Category 3 storms or higher. In response to these projections, Entergy Texas has maintained a strong focus on ensuring its electric system is prepared to withstand severe weather events while minimizing disruptions to customers.

The company’s preparedness strategy combines targeted grid modernization investments with comprehensive storm-response planning. Teams across the organization regularly participate in large-scale emergency drills and training exercises designed to improve coordination and response times when storms impact the region.

These preparations help ensure that crews can safely and efficiently restore power following major weather events.Over the past year, Entergy Texas has continued to modernize its infrastructure through a series of resilience-focused projects. Since the conclusion of the previous hurricane season, the company has installed thousands of new utility poles, upgraded or modified hundreds of transmission and distribution lines, and deployed more than 100 automated grid devices.

These advanced technologies are designed to identify outages more quickly, isolate damaged sections of the network, and restore service to customers faster during power interruptions.According to Frank Shannon, Vice President of Reliability for Entergy Texas, severe weather remains a constant challenge for communities throughout Southeast Texas, making preparedness an ongoing priority.

He explained that the company is making strategic investments and infrastructure upgrades specifically designed to reduce the frequency and duration of outages during severe storms while improving restoration efforts when disruptions occur.In addition to infrastructure improvements, Entergy Texas conducts extensive maintenance activities aimed at improving grid reliability.

Utility crews routinely inspect equipment, patrol power lines, and perform vegetation management work to reduce the risk of weather-related outages. Since the last hurricane season, the company has completed thousands of equipment inspections and reliability assessments, patrolled more than 9,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines, trimmed vegetation along more than 1,300 miles of power corridors, and removed nearly 3,600 trees identified as potential hazards to electrical infrastructure.

Power generation facilities are also a key part of the company’s storm preparedness efforts. Generation teams conduct regular inspections and testing of critical equipment, review emergency operating procedures, and verify that facilities are capable of operating under extreme weather conditions. These activities are intended to help maintain reliable electricity generation during periods of heightened demand and adverse weather.

Fuel security remains another important component of Entergy Texas’s resilience strategy. The company’s fuel supply teams actively manage resources, including the Spindletop natural gas storage facility, which plays a critical role in supporting reliable power generation during emergencies and periods of peak demand.

Maintaining access to fuel supplies not only supports grid reliability but also helps the company manage energy costs for customers.Beyond annual maintenance and preparedness activities, Entergy Texas is pursuing long-term investments aimed at strengthening the electrical system against future weather-related risks. The company is currently implementing Phase I of its resilience plan, which includes approximately $137 million in strategic infrastructure projects.

These initiatives are designed to reinforce critical components of the electric grid, reduce storm-related damage, minimize outages, and lower future restoration costs.The company estimates that these resilience investments will help prevent significant infrastructure damage over the coming decades while generating substantial savings for customers by reducing the need for costly emergency repairs and prolonged restoration efforts following severe weather events.

At the same time, Entergy Texas continues to focus on maintaining affordable electricity service for customers. Despite ongoing investments in grid modernization and resilience, the company reports that its electricity rates in 2025 remained approximately 20 percent below the national average. Entergy Texas has also consistently ranked among the providers with some of the lowest electricity rates in Texas over the past decade
