Tata Power’s Urja Mela Empowers Students from 15 States on National Energy Conservation Day

On National Energy Conservation Day, Tata Power hosted its annual flagship event, ‘Urja Mela,’ drawing participation from over 700 students and teachers representing 15 states across India. Held at Tata Power’s learning and development center in Rohini, New Delhi, the event aimed to cultivate young leaders to drive climate initiatives within communities, aligning with the company’s ‘Sustainable is Attainable’ movement.

As climate discussions took precedence at COP28, ‘Urja Mela’ focused on fostering climate awareness among youth. Integral to Club Enerji, Tata Power’s initiative nurturing clean energy ambassadors in collaboration with schools nationwide since 2007, the event highlighted the role of students as responsible citizens and proactive leaders. With a reach spanning over 1,000 schools across 15 states, the initiative aims to expand to 5,000 schools by FY28.

Aligned with Tata Power’s commitment to sustainable development, ‘Urja Mela’ aimed to raise awareness about energy conservation. The event featured engaging activities such as quizzes, drawing competitions, and science model exhibitions under the theme ‘Conserving for Tomorrow.’ These activities aimed to empower young leaders in driving broader climate initiatives within their communities.

Addressing the gathering at ‘Urja Mela,’ Mr. Himal Tewari, CHRO, Chief Sustainability, & CSR- Tata Power, emphasized the role of ‘Club Enerji’ in harnessing children’s transformative influence through purposeful engagements. He highlighted the initiative’s objective of cultivating young climate change champions and empowering them to actively contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable world.

Tata Power’s clean energy agenda, aligned with its mission for a sustainable future, has underscored the importance of educating about energy-saving practices and efficiency improvements. The ‘Club Enerji’ initiative, now in its 15th phase, has successfully engaged the younger generation in driving societal and behavioral changes towards energy consumption and natural resource conservation.

During the event, Tata Power introduced an updated Club Enerji Conservation Module, offering engaging content on clean energy sources and climate conservation awareness. The module, featuring QR codes for immersive learning experiences, aligns with the company’s effort to introduce a ‘phygital’ learning approach.

In a recent campaign, Tata Power released the film ‘Duniya Apne Hawale,’ emphasizing energy conservation and the transition to green and clean energy, featuring children as protagonists. This film serves as an extension of the company’s ‘Sustainable Is Attainable’ Campaign, promoting the message of embracing sustainable practices for a better future.
