The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has announced an expansion of power limits for several PT PLN (Persero) electricity tariff groups. This initiative aims to better accommodate customer demands while enhancing service, efficiency, and electricity reliability.

Jisman P. Hutajulu, Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, stated that tariff groups such as traction, bulk, business, and household will be widened without impacting existing electricity tariff policies. “The expansion of the electricity tariff power limit will not lead to an increase in electricity tariffs,” he assured.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo praised the governmentโ€™s decision, highlighting its importance in adapting to technological advancements and the specific needs of modern businesses and households. “For instance, the needs for fast trains and electric vehicle charging stations are now being accommodated within the PLN tariff group, facilitating easier access to reliable electricity services,” he explained.

PLN Retail and Commerce Director Edi Srimulyanti confirmed PLN’s readiness to implement the new policy. “PLN fully supports the government’s steps to enhance services, reliability of electricity supply, and boost the community’s economy,” she said.

Edi also emphasized that this policy will foster an attractive business environment and support the growth of the Electric Vehicle ecosystem, particularly for Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) and Public Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Stations (SPBKLU). The tariff expansion will improve service quality, meet customer needs, and optimize energy production efficiency.

The new regulation is outlined in the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 7 of 2024. It affects four groups of PT PLN (Persero) customers:

  1. Low Voltage Household (R-3/TR) power from 6,600 VA to 200 kVA expanded to Medium Voltage (R-3/TM) power above 200 kVA.
  2. Medium Voltage Business (B-3/TM) power above 200 kVA expanded to High Voltage (B-3/TT) power of 30,000 kVA and above.
  3. Medium Voltage Traction (T/TM) power above 200 kVA expanded to High Voltage (T/TT) power of 30,000 kVA and above.
  4. Medium Voltage Bulk (C/TM) power above 200 kVA expanded to Low Voltage (C/TR) power up to 200 kVA and High Voltage (C/TT) power of 30,000 kVA and above.

The government has also considered investments in equipment for electricity connections, network shrinkage control, and efficient land use for electricity infrastructure, ensuring that the expansion will not compromise the reliability and affordability of electricity access for all customers.
