The Union Minister of Power and Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal inaugurated the Disaster Resilient Infrastructure for Power Sector (DRIPS) online portal in New Delhi. The launch marks a significant advancement in India’s efforts to safeguard its power infrastructure against natural disasters.

In recent years, India has faced numerous natural calamities, including Cyclone Fani in Odisha, floods in Jammu & Kashmir, and extensive flooding in Kerala. These events have exposed the vulnerabilities of the countryโ€™s infrastructure, particularly in coastal states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, among others. The DRIPS portal aims to address these challenges by enabling the rapid identification and deployment of necessary resources during disaster situations, ensuring swift restoration of power services.

Speaking at the launch, Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal emphasized the importance of the DRIPS portal in enhancing the transparency, coordination, and effectiveness of the power sector during emergencies. He noted that the system would reduce human error during crises and benefit not only power generators and distributors but also consumers.

The DRIPS portal will serve as a centralized platform for nodal officers across the power sector and related agencies in affected regions. It will manage an inventory of critical power system equipment and supplies, ensuring a coordinated emergency response. Developed in-house by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and hosted on the National Power Portal, DRIPS integrates the power sector’s three key areas: Generation, Transmission, and Distribution.

The portal’s effectiveness hinges on the timely registration and regular updates of spare inventories by stakeholders. Currently, 61 entities are registered on the platform. The success of DRIPS will depend on the active participation of these utilities, enabling quick access to resources and minimizing the impact of disasters on the power sector.

The launch of DRIPS represents a crucial step towards building a more resilient power infrastructure in India, safeguarding lives, property, and essential services during natural disasters.
