
The UAEโs Ministry of Economy (MoEc) led the nationโs participation in the 21st China-ASEAN Expo and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit from September 24 to 28 in Nanning, Guangxi Province. The UAE delegation, headed by H.E. Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, highlighted the countryโs growing role in both economic and renewable energy partnerships.
At the โHigh-Quality Pilot Free Trade Zone Development Conference,โ H.E. Al Saleh engaged in discussions with H.E. Tianli Lan, Governor of Guangxi Province, to explore mutual economic and energy interests. The UAE was the first GCC country to participate as a special partner in this capacity, underlining the depth of UAE-China relations, which continue to grow in sectors such as renewable energy.
During the expo, H.E. Al Saleh emphasized the UAE’s leading efforts in renewable energy collaboration with China and ASEAN nations, pointing to successful projects and new opportunities for clean energy investments. He noted that non-oil trade between the UAE and ASEAN countries has seen significant growth, with trade reaching USD 18 billion in the first half of 2024, reflecting a 19.2% increase compared to 2022.
China remains the UAEโs largest global trading partner, accounting for over 11% of its non-oil trade. Trade between the two nations hit USD 42 billion in the first half of 2024. Furthermore, renewable energy cooperation continues to deepen, as both countries pursue ambitious climate goals.
H.E. Al Salehโs meeting with Governor Tianli Lan also explored renewable energy initiatives. With a trade volume of USD 1 billion between Guangxi Province and the UAE, sectors like renewable energy, e-commerce, and infrastructure show promising potential for future growth.
The UAEโs presence at the China-ASEAN Expo reaffirms its commitment to forging strong economic and renewable energy ties across Asia, as it accelerates efforts toward a sustainable and diversified economy.
