The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) has partnered with NITI Aayog to support sustainable development in India. The focus of this collaboration is to assess and provide technical assistance to the Indian government in implementing policies and initiatives. The goal is to upscale energy transition efforts in at least 10 states, with plans to install 100 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy over the next three years. This will include developing a strong pipeline of projects and offering necessary technical support.

Some of the projects in the pipeline include solarizing expressways, which could cover 6,000 kilometers and generate 10 GW of energy. The initiative also aims to empower around 100,000 women by improving their access to livelihoods and digitizing utility services to reduce losses and enhance their viability. In addition to working with NITI Aayog, GEAPP plans to partner with state governments, think tanks, and other sectoral partners.

BVR Subrahmanyam, the CEO of NITI Aayog, emphasized that this partnership is a significant step toward realizing India’s vision for 2047. The collaborative efforts will focus on innovative solutions to address challenges, promote inclusivity, and ensure that benefits reach the most underserved communities.

The projects outlined in the SOI will also involve detailed study reports, conferences, stakeholder meetings, and workshops to empower informed decision-making and promote positive change. The partnership aims to help Indian states develop comprehensive energy transition plans, focusing on sustainable policies and clean energy solutions.

Woochong Um, CEO of GEAPP, expressed excitement about this collaboration, noting the significant responsibility and opportunity it brings. He highlighted the urgency of collective action in promoting sustainable development through renewable energy and the importance of radical partnerships and innovation for a more equitable and prosperous future.

This partnership marks a crucial step in advancing India’s sustainable development objectives as the country remains focused on achieving its national commitments.
