The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has issued an order regarding a petition by Bhadla-III Power Transmission Limited, a subsidiary of the Power Grid Corporation of India. This petition seeks approval for a transmission license under the Electricity Act, 2003, and related regulations to develop additional transmission infrastructure. The project aims to evacuate power from the Bhadla-III Power Station as part of the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone Phase-III scheme, targeting a capacity of 20 GW.
The project will include several components, such as the installation of transformers and bays at the Bhadla-III Power Station. The first phase is scheduled for completion 18 months after the effective project start date, while other components will be completed by the end of 2025. The petitioner also requested approval to recover inter-state transmission charges under the applicable CERC regulations.
The competitive bidding process for this project was managed by REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited, with Power Grid Corporation of India emerging as the lowest bidder, quoting โน661.52 million. Subsequently, the company fulfilled the necessary conditions, including providing a performance guarantee and acquiring the equity of the special purpose vehicle (SPV) created for this project.
The commission has provisionally accepted the application and directed the publication of a public notice to invite comments and objections. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for December 9, 2024.
