SAIL and John Cockerill India Forge Partnership to Advance Sustainable Steelmaking with Green Hydrogen

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), India’s largest public sector steel producer and a Maharatna company, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with John Cockerill India Limited (JCIL), the Indian arm of the global John Cockerill Group. The agreement, signed in Mumbai, aims to combine the expertise and technological strengths of both companies to advance steelmaking processes with a focus on sustainability and efficiency.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Anil Kumar Tulsiani, Director (Finance) of SAIL, and Mr. Michael Kotas, Managing Director of the Metals Division at John Cockerill India. Under this MoU, the parties will explore various avenues to transform iron and steelmaking, while promoting the deployment of sustainable green steel solutions in the country. The key areas of focus will include exploring a joint venture in Cold Rolling and Processing for Carbon Steel, including Green Steel and Silicon Steel (CRGO, CRNO), analysing the integration of green hydrogen into iron and steelmaking processes, and incorporating John Cockerillโ€™s innovative processing technologies into SAILโ€™s future projects.

Both companies share a vision of transforming traditional iron and steelmaking practices by embracing advanced technologies.
