Dubai has reiterated its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action as the nation marks the 28th National Environment Day. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), emphasized the UAEโs leadership in integrating economic and social development with sustainability, in line with the vision of the countryโs leadership.
Al Tayer highlighted that the UAE continues to build on the achievements of COP28, particularly the UAE Consensus, which has set new benchmarks for international climate action. He reaffirmed that Dubai remains dedicated to its Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to provide 100% of the emirateโs energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.
To achieve these ambitious goals, Dubai is implementing world-leading projects, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the worldโs largest single-site solar park, as well as the Green Hydrogen project, the Hatta Hydroelectric Power Plant, energy efficiency initiatives, and the EV Green Charger initiative for electric vehicles.
In addition, DEWA continues to organize major global events such as the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and the World Green Economy Summit (WGES), aimed at promoting climate action, addressing sustainability challenges, and reinforcing Dubaiโs position as a global hub for the green economy.
Al Tayer also emphasized Dubaiโs ongoing efforts in accelerating digital transformation, reducing carbon emissions, improving energy and water efficiency, conserving natural resources, protecting biodiversity, and expanding green spaces across the emirate.
