CEA And Tata Power-DDL Celebrate Lineman Diwas 2025 To Honor Power Sector Frontline Workers

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), under the Ministry of Power, in collaboration with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (Tata Power-DDL), organized the fifth edition of Lineman Diwas on March 4, 2025, in New Delhi. The event aimed to honor linemen and ground maintenance staff, recognizing their essential contributions to India’s power sector. Over 180 linemen from more than 45 state and private power distribution, generation, and transmission companies participated in the event, sharing experiences, discussing challenges, and emphasizing the importance of safety and uninterrupted power supply.

The Honโ€™ble Minister of Power and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, delivered a video message emphasizing the role of linemen in ensuring reliable electricity access. He stated that electricity powers industries, businesses, and communities, and linemen work tirelessly to maintain supply despite challenges such as extreme weather and disasters. Lineman Diwas serves as a tribute to their dedication while also promoting safety, collaboration, and innovation in the energy sector. He highlighted that celebrating this event during National Safety Week further underscores the importance of ensuring worker safety and well-being.

The theme of the event was โ€˜Seva, Suraksha, Swabhiman,โ€™ signifying dedication, service, and sacrifice. Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of CEA, launched a special anthem dedicated to linemen. He highlighted the importance of Hotline Maintenance Training, which equips linemen with skills to work on live electrical lines safely. This training is crucial in protecting workersโ€™ lives while maintaining grid reliability.

Mr. Gajanan S. Kale, CEO of Tata Power-DDL, appreciated Lineman Diwas as a unique platform that honors frontline workers, amplifies their voices, and recognizes their challenges. He emphasized that ensuring their safety remains a top priority and encouraged greater participation from stakeholders to make the event more impactful.

Dr. Tripta Thakur, Director General of the National Power Training Institute (NPTI), delivered a special address, stressing the need for regular safety training and best practices in the sector. She praised CEAโ€™s efforts in enforcing safety regulations, which play a key role in minimizing electrical accidents and creating a safer working environment.

The event included safety video screenings to educate participants on best practices, and it was live-streamed for power utilities across the country to join the celebrations. Lineman Diwas was first held in March 2021 by CEA and Tata Power-DDL and has been organized annually since then to recognize the efforts of frontline workers. The fifth edition expanded the tradition further by bringing together a larger number of participants.

Linemen attending the event exchanged knowledge on safety protocols and visited the Distribution Operations & Safety Excellence Center (DOSEC), which provides training based on CEAโ€™s prescribed curriculum for workmen, supervisors, and engineers. A special display of safety tools and equipment was also arranged to enhance awareness of best practices.

This collaborative initiative enabled linemen to learn from each other, share experiences, and reinforce safety measures, contributing to a safer and more efficient working environment in the power sector. Companies that participated in the event included Adani Electricity, BSES Rajdhani, Tata Power, Power Grid Corporation of India, and many others from across India. The event reinforced the commitment of the power industry to honoring its workforce and ensuring their safety.
