GE Vernova Inc. announced two major enhancements to its utility-scale FLEXINVERTER platform , advancing performance, efficiency, and global reach for clean energy projects:

  • Launch of the 1.5kV FLEXINVERTER with advanced silicon carbide (SiC) technology, optimized for utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS).
  • Global expansion of the 2kV FLEXINVERTER solution for photovoltaic (PV) applications to IEC markets, following a successful U.S. launch.

These upgrades represent critical steps toward lowering project costs and supporting the global shift to more sustainable energy infrastructure.

Efficiency Through Innovation

The new 1.5kV FLEXINVERTER leverages SiC technology to deliver improved electrical efficiency, higher power density, and compact form factors. Benefits include:

  • Reduced energy losses and cooling requirements
  • Smaller system footprint
  • Lower levelized cost of storage (LCoS)
  • Decreased EPC costs

Meanwhile, the 2kV FLEXINVERTERโ€”now extended to markets governed by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standardsโ€”offers solar developers substantial balance of system (BOS) cost savings, thanks to reduced cable sizes and enhanced energy efficiency.

Engineered at GE Vernovaโ€™s innovation hub in Berlin, Germany, the FLEXINVERTER platform is produced at facilities in Chennai, India, and Pittsburgh, USA. In early 2025, GE Vernova announced an expansion of its Pittsburgh operations, including a new FLEXINVERTER production line expected to create over 270 new jobs. Growth at the Chennai plant will further support increasing global demand.
