Energy Vault Holdings Inc., a company specializing in grid-scale energy storage solutions, has signed a new agreement with Jupiter Power for the supply of an additional battery energy storage system (BESS) at a site located within the ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) region. This follows the successful completion of an earlier 100 MW/200 MWh BESS project in July 2024. The new BESS will also provide 100 MW/200 MWh of dispatchable energy capacity, aimed at supporting the ERCOT grid and improving overall grid reliability.
Construction of the system is already in progress, with commercial operations expected to begin by the end of summer 2025. The system will be developed using Energy Vaultโs proprietary X-Vault integration platform and UL9540-certified B-VAULT product. It will also be managed by the companyโs VaultOS Energy Management System, which is designed to control and optimize energy storage operations. The platform allows flexibility in choosing battery and inverter suppliers and offers both AC-coupled and DC-coupled configurations to meet different project requirements.
“As one of the largest battery storage developers and operators in the U.S., we look for partners who can keep pace with our ambition and scale. With more than 2,500 MWh in operation or construction, weโre excited to continue building with Energy Vault at this critical site and appreciate their ability to deliver solutions tailored to our needs,โ mentioned Michael Geier, Chief Technology Officer, Jupiter Power.
Marco Terruzzin, Chief Commercial and Product Officer, Energy Vault, stated, โTodayโs expansion of our partnership with Jupiter Power stands as a testament to the strength of our teamโs collaborative approach to delivering reliable, safe, and efficient energy storage solutions to customers. Jupiterโs BESS projects portfolio has reached a critical mass in ERCOT and weโre proud to continue serving as a partner to Jupiter Power in the ultimate endeavor to decarbonize the grid in an economically effective fashion.โ
This project is part of a broader collaboration between Energy Vault and Jupiter Power that began in 2022. Their partnership includes the integration of 2.4 GWh of supply chain equipment and services through Energy Vaultโs technology platform. As of now, Energy Vaultโs B-VAULT portfolio comprises over 2 GWh of projects that are either operational or in various stages of development.
