A new petition has been filed with the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission by the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited for the determination of tariff for a new solar power project. The case, registered as Petition No. 2495 of 2025, is focused on a 30 MW Solar Photovoltaic Grid Connected Power Project located at Chandarava in Botad District. This project is part of Gujaratโs ongoing efforts to expand renewable energy and strengthen its clean power generation. The filing of the petition is an important step as it will decide the rate at which the electricity produced from this plant will be sold and purchased.
The petition has been filed under Section 62 and Section 86 (1) (a) of the Electricity Act, 2003, which empowers the Commission to regulate and decide tariffs for power projects. This ensures that the tariff determination is carried out in a transparent and fair manner while considering the cost of the project, operating expenses, and providing a reasonable return on investment for the developer. By following this legal framework, the regulatory process provides balance between the generator and the buyer, while also keeping in mind the interests of consumers.
In this petition, Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited has been named as the respondent. As the state-owned distribution company, it is expected to purchase the electricity generated from the Chandarava project. The tariff order to be set by the Commission will therefore have a direct impact on both the financial viability of the project for Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited and the cost at which Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited procures power.
The Commissionโs proceedings will involve a detailed examination of the financial aspects of the project, along with other relevant data submitted by both sides. Based on this review, the Commission will decide the tariff in a way that ensures the project is commercially sustainable while also protecting the interests of the distribution company and consumers. This process is crucial for ensuring the smooth integration of the new solar plant into the stateโs power system and creating a stable revenue model for its long-term operations.
The outcome of the petition will play a key role in the successful operation of the 30 MW solar project and will further contribute to Gujaratโs renewable energy capacity. The tariff decision is expected to influence not just this project but also set an important precedent for similar solar power developments in the state.
