Zelestra, a global renewable energy company, has secured a major contract for a project of up to 108 MW in Sicily as part of Italy’s second FER X auction. This marks the largest project in the company’s Italian portfolio to date.

The win follows Zelestra’s recent success in the first FER X auction earlier this month, where it secured eight solar projects totalling around 60 MW. The FER X mechanism continues to play a critical role in supporting Italy’s clean energy goals, including decarbonisation, energy security and the development of robust, diversified supply chains.

Zelestra stated that its growing portfolio will contribute to strengthening Europe’s clean-tech ecosystem by demonstrating how large-scale renewable projects can create local value, reinforce industrial resilience and support the advancement of next-generation energy technologies across the region.

Italy remains one of Zelestra’s fastest-growing markets, with the company now holding more than 1.4 GW of solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. Earlier this year, Zelestra announced an initial offtake agreement for a 2 GWh BESS project in northern Italy—one of Europe’s largest battery storage developments.

Eliano Russo, Zelestra’s Country Manager for Italy, said the results highlight the strength of the company’s long-term development efforts. “FER X is proving to be a powerful instrument to accelerate Italy’s clean energy transition and strengthen the country’s industrial competitiveness. To deliver two successful auction outcomes within a fortnight is a testament to the hard work of our team. It has been a very successful year for Zelestra in Italy, and we look forward to work beginning on these projects next year,” he said.
