Kolon Industries, in collaboration with NuriFlex Vietnam, has officially commenced commercial operations of a 5.151 MWp rooftop solar power system at its manufacturing facility in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly located in Binh Duong. The development marks a significant step in the company’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy and supports Vietnam’s national objective of achieving carbon neutrality.
Installed across the factory’s rooftop, the solar system is expected to generate approximately 7.3 GWh of clean electricity annually. The entire output will be consumed on-site under a self-generation, self-consumption model, enabling Kolon Industries to optimise electricity costs while ensuring a stable supply of renewable energy for its operations.
The project has been deployed at Kolon Industries’ facility producing value-added industrial materials, including tire cord. By integrating solar power into its manufacturing operations, the company aims to substantially reduce carbon emissions and enhance environmentally responsible production practices in line with global sustainability standards.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior representatives from both Korea and Vietnam, including Mr. Jo Young-je, Commercial Counselor at the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Kim Won-sik, Honorary Chairman of KOCHAM Binh Duong; Mr. Song Kwang-seon, General Director of Kolon Industries Vietnam; and Mr. Kim Jin-young, General Director of NuriFlex Vietnam. Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of renewable energy adoption in driving long-term, sustainable growth for foreign-invested enterprises operating in Vietnam.
The rooftop solar project also aligns with the Vietnamese government’s renewable energy development roadmap and is expected to contribute to Binh Duong Province’s broader smart city and sustainable development initiatives.
Kolon Industries said the commissioning of the solar system represents an important milestone in accelerating its sustainable growth in the global market. The company reaffirmed its commitment to expanding renewable energy adoption across its production facilities worldwide, including in Vietnam, while increasing investments in high-efficiency manufacturing technologies, eco-friendly materials, and energy-saving solutions to strengthen its position as a leading global producer of sustainable materials.
