The Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) has achieved its highest-ever power generation, reaching 6,160 MW, according to the state’s Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar. The milestone marks a significant achievement for the state-run utility as Andhra Pradesh prepares to meet rising electricity demand ahead of the summer season.
During a review meeting with officials from the state’s power utilities, the minister said the record generation reflects improved operational efficiency across APGENCO’s power plants. The corporation also recorded an ex-bus power generation of around 5,730 MW, which represents the electricity actually delivered to the grid after internal consumption.
Officials noted that the record output was made possible through coordinated efforts by engineers, plant operators, and maintenance teams working across APGENCO’s thermal and hydropower stations. The government has directed all power utilities to maintain high operational readiness and closely monitor electricity demand in the coming months.
Electricity demand in Andhra Pradesh typically rises significantly during the summer due to increased cooling requirements and higher industrial consumption. The state government has therefore been focusing on maximizing generation capacity to ensure uninterrupted power supply for domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers.
APGENCO remains one of the key pillars of the state’s power sector, operating multiple thermal and hydroelectric generation facilities across Andhra Pradesh. The latest milestone underscores the corporation’s role in strengthening the reliability of the state’s power supply as demand continues to grow.
