Jupiter International Limited has commissioned its third solar cell manufacturing unit in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, marking a major step in expanding its production capacity. The company announced that the new facility will significantly enhance its ability to meet the rising demand for solar cells in India.
The Kolkata-based solar cell manufacturer said the newly operational unit adds 1 GW of mono PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell) capacity to its existing base of 959 MW. With this addition, the companyโs total installed solar cell manufacturing capacity has nearly doubled to around 2 GW. This expansion reflects Jupiter Internationalโs continued focus on strengthening its manufacturing footprint in the country.
The new plant has been developed by Jupiter Solartech Private Limited (JSTPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jupiter International Ltd. The company stated that the commissioning of this unit will support its long-term growth plans and enhance its competitiveness in the domestic solar manufacturing sector.
Indiaโs solar industry has been witnessing steady growth, driven by increasing installations, supportive government policies, and a strong push for domestic manufacturing. In this context, capacity additions by companies like Jupiter International are seen as important for reducing import dependence and building a robust local supply chain.
With the commissioning of the third unit, Jupiter International aims to play a larger role in supporting Indiaโs renewable energy targets while meeting the growing needs of project developers and module manufacturers across the country.
