The Confederation of Indian Industry – Indian Green Building Council (CII-IGBC) convened a high-level stakeholder engagement in Goa to advance sustainable infrastructure and promote green building practices across the state’s rapidly evolving urban and tourism sectors.
Held at Novotel Goa Panaji, the conclave brought together senior government officials, policymakers, urban planners, and industry leaders under the theme “Driving Goa’s Green Hospitality & Habitat.” The platform focused on aligning policy frameworks, sharing best practices, and fostering collaboration to integrate sustainability into hotels, resorts, and residential developments.
CII-IGBC highlighted its growing footprint in Goa, with nearly 9.96 million sq ft of green building space, comprising 88 registered and 27 certified projects across commercial, residential, industrial, and net-zero segments. Notable developments include Club Mahindra – Emerald Palms, NIT Goa Campus Phase 1, and the All India Institute of Ayurveda.
The inaugural session was attended by key dignitaries including Digambar Kamat, Minister for PWD, Legal Metrology & Captain of Ports, along with industry representatives and policy stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, Kamat emphasised the need to balance development with environmental preservation, highlighting Goa’s potential to emerge as a global benchmark for sustainable habitats. He underscored the importance of green buildings, industries, and eco-friendly tourism in achieving the state’s long-term development vision.
K. KulaSekhar, Chairman of IGBC Goa Chapter, reiterated the council’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the state government to drive adoption of green building standards and enable a low-carbon, resource-efficient built environment.
Discussions at the conclave focused on climate-responsive development, resource efficiency in energy and water use, and the integration of globally recognised green building rating systems into local regulations. Stakeholders also highlighted the need for stronger policy support, institutional capacity building, and awareness among developers and local bodies.
Prakash Jalan, Co-Chair of IGBC Goa Chapter, noted that Goa stands at a critical juncture where growth in hospitality and residential sectors must align with environmental stewardship to sustain its tourism-driven economy.
The event also featured technical sessions with participation from industry leaders such as The Indian Hotels Company Limited and Saint-Gobain Glass India Pvt. Ltd., among others, who shared insights on reducing carbon emissions, improving resource efficiency, and enhancing occupant well-being.
The conclave concluded with a panel discussion on sustainable solutions for residential and hospitality sectors, reinforcing the need for continued collaboration between government and industry to accelerate Goa’s transition towards a greener and more resilient future.
