Sonaura, a private-wire renewable energy company, has announced a new Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Bentley Motors to supply renewable electricity directly to the companyโs UK manufacturing headquarters in Crewe.Under this agreement, Sonaura will develop and operate a 7 MW solar project, subject to the necessary planning and regulatory approvals.
The project will deliver clean electricity directly to Bentleyโs manufacturing site through a private wire connection, meaning the energy will be used on-site without passing through the public grid. This approach is designed to improve energy security, reduce exposure to market volatility, and provide a more stable and cost-efficient supply of renewable power for industrial operations.
By directly connecting generation to consumption, the project aims to support one of the regionโs most significant manufacturing employers with a dedicated source of green electricity. It also reflects a growing trend in industrial energy strategies, where companies are seeking greater control over their energy supply while advancing decarbonisation goals.
Ed Pateman-Jones, CEO of Sonaura, said that the agreement with Bentley Motors highlights how private-wire renewable energy can strengthen both sustainability and resilience in UK industry. He explained that supplying locally generated clean energy directly to Bentleyโs Crewe facility helps protect operations from ongoing energy market fluctuations while ensuring a reliable power source.
He also noted that projects like this demonstrate how collaboration between energy providers and industrial businesses can create long-term value, support regional economies, and accelerate the transition toward net zero emissions. The project is considered an important step in integrating locally produced renewable energy into industrial manufacturing.
By powering Bentleyโs operations with dedicated solar energy, the agreement will contribute to reducing the siteโs carbon footprint and strengthening its long-term sustainability strategy. Bentley Motorsโ participation in the initiative also reflects the broader role of major manufacturers in supporting the UKโs decarbonisation efforts.
As a key employer in the Crewe region, the companyโs investment in renewable energy infrastructure demonstrates how industrial businesses can actively contribute to environmental goals while maintaining operational efficiency and competitiveness. Overall, the 7 MW solar PPA between Sonaura and Bentley Motors represents a model for how private-wire renewable energy solutions can directly support industry, improve energy resilience, and drive progress toward cleaner manufacturing systems.
