Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a major power utility serving nearly 9 million consumers in North and North-West Delhi, has crossed a significant milestone by energising more than 10,000 rooftop solar installations. As of April 2026, the company has successfully commissioned 10,466 rooftop solar systems with a cumulative installed capacity of 160.3 MWp, marking a major achievement in Delhi’s clean energy transition.

The development has been driven under Tata Power-DDL’s flagship initiative, Project Suryansh, which aims to accelerate rooftop solar adoption and support the Government of India’s vision for clean and green energy. Residential consumers have emerged as the largest contributors to this growth, accounting for 8,451 installations and 106.3 MWp of total capacity. Commercial and industrial consumers contributed 2,015 installations with a total capacity of 54 MWp.

A major boost has come through the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY), under which Tata Power-DDL has energised 4,375 rooftop solar installations with a combined capacity of 17.84 MWp. The utility stated that this is the highest number of rooftop solar installations among Delhi’s DISCOMs under the scheme. The remaining 4,076 residential systems outside the scheme account for 88.46 MWp capacity.

The company highlighted that rooftop solar adoption has witnessed remarkable growth over the past few years. From just 1,803 installations with 35 MWp capacity in FY 2022, the utility has now achieved over 10,000 installations and 160 MWp capacity by April 2026. FY 2025-26 proved to be a breakthrough year, with 5,378 new installations adding 55.75 MWp to the grid, the highest annual rooftop solar addition recorded in Delhi so far. The momentum has continued into FY 2026-27, with 394 new installations already energised in April 2026 alone.

Tata Power-DDL stated that the financial attractiveness of rooftop solar has improved significantly due to combined Central and State subsidies of up to ₹1.08 lakh, allowing consumers to recover their investments within two to three years. More than 50 Cooperative Group Housing Societies (CGHS) have already adopted rooftop solar systems, while commercial and industrial users are increasingly using solar energy to reduce operational costs.

The utility is also promoting innovative initiatives such as Peer-to-Peer (P2P) energy trading under a pilot approved by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC). This system will allow rooftop solar consumers to sell surplus power directly to other consumers through a digital platform integrated with smart meters and billing systems.

To spread awareness, Tata Power-DDL has intensified consumer outreach through solar camps, street plays, Solar Sakhis in villages, Solar Ambassadors in urban areas, metro advertisements, FM radio campaigns, and social media promotions. The company has also solarised 18 of its own premises, generating 2.1 MWp of captive clean energy, further strengthening its commitment to sustainable energy development in Delhi.
