Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has invited online bids for a major battery energy storage project in West Bengal, marking another important step toward strengthening the state’s renewable energy and grid infrastructure. The tender, issued under Reference Number CC/T/W-BESS/DOM/A00/26/07589, seeks contractors for the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of a 200 MW/800 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at DPL West Bengal.
The project, known as โPackage WB BESS 01,โ forms part of a much larger initiative aimed at developing 750 MW/3000 MWh of standalone battery energy storage capacity across various locations in West Bengal. The broader program is being implemented through a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process and is expected to support the integration of renewable energy while improving grid reliability and energy management.
According to the tender notification, the project falls under the open tender category for power and energy works. Interested and eligible bidders are required to participate through POWERGRIDโs PRANIT electronic tendering portal. The tender documents and submission process are available online under RFX Number 5002005411.
The tender was officially published on June 1, 2026, at 4:00 PM. The same date also marked the commencement of document availability and the opening of the bid submission window. While the preliminary notice indicates that there is no tender value and no earnest money deposit (EMD) requirement, bidders are required to pay a non-refundable tender fee of โน25,000.
The bidding schedule provides a limited timeframe for participation. The deadline for purchasing tender documents through the online portal has been set for June 20, 2026, at 11:55 PM. Following this, bidders must submit their soft copy bids by June 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
The opening of electronic bids is scheduled for June 22, 2026, at 11:30 AM. Following the bid opening, POWERGRID will begin the technical and financial evaluation process to determine the successful bidder for the project.
The tender process is being managed by Sandeep Panwar, Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. All official communications, clarifications, and administrative matters related to the tender will be handled through the designated tender inviting authority at POWERGRIDโs corporate office located at Saudamini, 3rd Floor, Plot No. 2, Sector 29, Gurugram, Haryana.
The project highlights the growing role of battery energy storage systems in India’s energy transition, with large-scale storage increasingly being deployed to support renewable energy integration, enhance grid stability, and ensure a more reliable power supply across the country.
