The Nagar Nigam Varanasi has invited bids for a major solar energy infrastructure project involving the relocation of an existing 2 MW solar photovoltaic power plant within the city. The e-tender notice, issued by the Office of the Chief Engineer under Tender Notice No. 49, calls for eligible contractors to participate in the project through the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode.
According to the tender document, the selected agency will be responsible for the complete relocation of the solar power plant from its present location in Bhelupur to the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at Sarnath in Varanasi. The scope of work includes site surveying, marking, identification of equipment, dismantling of the existing plant, packing, loading, transportation, unloading, re-installation, testing, and final commissioning of the facility at the new site.
The project has been estimated at a cost of ₹5 crore, including GST. Nagar Nigam Varanasi has set a completion period of 12 weeks from the date of award, indicating the importance of completing the relocation within a fixed timeline.
The tender is open to contractors registered in the appropriate category with state governments, central government departments, autonomous bodies, and public sector organizations. Interested bidders must fulfill all eligibility requirements specified in the tender documents.
As per the official schedule, the tender documents were made available for download from June 11, 2026, at 12:00 PM. The online bid submission process also started at the same time. Contractors can submit their bids through the designated e-tender portal until July 1, 2026, at 4:00 PM. The submitted bids are scheduled to be opened on the same day at 4:30 PM.
To participate in the bidding process, applicants are required to pay a non-refundable tender fee of ₹29,500 and submit an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of ₹10 lakh. The municipal corporation has specified that both payments must be made only through internet banking using the official e-tender platform or the prescribed online payment link.
Officials have clarified that bids will not be considered if the required payments are not made through the approved online system, and no alternative payment methods will be accepted.
