ADB Signs $50 Million Yapı Kredi Leasing Deal to Accelerate Clean Energy and Green Investment in Türkiye

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a $50 million medium-term financing agreement with Yapı Kredi Leasing, marking its first transaction in Türkiye’s financial leasing sector. The partnership aims to strengthen Türkiye’s energy security, increase clean energy adoption, and support the development of greener industries.

Yapı Kredi Leasing, a major leasing company owned by Türkiye’s fourth-largest private bank, Yapı Kredi, will use the financing to expand its portfolio of sustainable and clean energy projects. The funding will support investments in solar, wind, and geothermal energy, as well as electric vehicles, EV charging infrastructure, and energy-efficient equipment for industrial businesses.

Industries such as textiles are expected to benefit from financing for energy-efficient technologies, helping companies reduce energy consumption and improve operational efficiency. The initiative is also designed to make clean technologies more accessible to local businesses through leasing-based financing.

Around 15% of the total financing will be allocated to “blue lease” projects focused on environmental protection and resource efficiency. These initiatives are expected to include plastic recycling, wastewater treatment facilities, production of biodegradable plastic packaging, and environmentally sustainable fisheries equipment.

ADB officials highlighted the important role of Türkiye’s leasing industry in supporting productive private sector investment. According to the bank, improving access to lease financing can strengthen market resilience while encouraging energy efficiency and cleaner production across the economy.

Yapı Kredi Leasing CEO Fatih Torun described the agreement as an important milestone for Türkiye’s sustainable finance ecosystem. He said the financing would help local businesses adopt clean technologies more easily, improve their competitiveness, and contribute to the country’s sustainability objectives.

The transaction supports Türkiye’s Green Deal Action Plan and Medium-Term Economic Programs, while also aligning with ADB’s country strategy for 2025–2027. It further supports the carbon neutrality ambitions of Yapı Kredi’s parent company, Koç Group, which has set a target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Through the agreement, ADB is expanding its support for sustainable finance, clean energy investment, resource efficiency, and climate resilience in Türkiye. The financing is expected to help businesses accelerate their transition toward cleaner technologies while contributing to the country’s broader energy and environmental goals.
