Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL) has secured an order from Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) to supply generator transformers for the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited’s (NPCIL) Kaiga Units 5 and 6 nuclear power project in Karnataka.
The order marks TARIL’s entry into the nuclear power sector and expands its portfolio of critical power infrastructure projects. The generator transformers will form a key part of the electrical infrastructure at the project, supporting power evacuation from the nuclear units and integration with the transmission network.
Kaiga Units 5 and 6 comprise two indigenous 700 MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) being developed by NPCIL at Kaiga in Karnataka. The two units will have a combined generation capacity of 1,400 MW and are part of India’s 700 MW PHWR programme aimed at expanding domestic nuclear power generation and strengthening indigenous technology and manufacturing capabilities.
TARIL said the order will strengthen its position in the high-value power infrastructure segment as India continues to expand its generation and transmission capacity. The company is also focusing on manufacturing capabilities, technology and backward integration to meet the requirements of critical power sector applications.
The company plans to leverage its high-voltage transformer manufacturing expertise to supply equipment for critical power generation and transmission projects and expand its presence in India’s growing nuclear energy ecosystem.
