Premier Energies Commissions 7 GW Solar Cell Facility, Takes Total Capacity to 10.6 GW

Premier Energies Limited has commissioned a 7 GW N-type TOPCon G12R solar cell manufacturing facility at Naidupeta in Andhra Pradesh, taking its total solar cell manufacturing capacity to 10.6 GW. The company said the new facility is India’s largest solar cell manufacturing plant and has commenced trial runs.

Spread across 101 acres, the facility was developed at a capital expenditure of ₹3,293 crore. The plant was commissioned on schedule and within budget and is designed to produce approximately 88,000 solar cells per hour.

The facility incorporates advanced digital manufacturing systems and artificial intelligence-based technologies for predictive performance analysis, process control and precision manufacturing. Automated transport, packing and packaging systems have also been deployed to improve production throughput, consistency and operational efficiency.

According to Premier Energies, the plant is designed to support future upgrades to next-generation TOPCon+ technologies, including poly-finger metallisation and advanced edge-isolation processes. Following stabilisation and ramp-up, the facility is targeting an average solar cell efficiency of approximately 25.8%.

The company said the commissioning expands its manufacturing scale and strengthens its ability to serve the growing demand for high-efficiency solar products in both domestic and international markets.

Chiranjeev Saluja, Managing Director of Premier Energies, said the commissioning of the facility marks an execution milestone for the company and will provide additional manufacturing scale to meet demand as the production line stabilises and ramps up.

Premier Energies is also pursuing backward integration into ingots and wafers as part of its broader manufacturing strategy. The company said the Naidupeta facility is an important step in strengthening its integrated solar manufacturing capabilities and supply-chain resilience.

The facility also includes a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system designed to maximise water recycling and reuse as part of the company’s focus on sustainable manufacturing.

Premier Energies is undertaking a ₹12,500 crore capital expenditure programme over three years to more than double its solar manufacturing capacity. The programme also includes expansion into ingots and wafers, along with diversification into inverters, transformers and battery energy storage systems.
