A 525 KW capacity solar plant installed at Golden Temple in Amritsar. The sewa (voluntarily service) is being performed by the US-based United Sikh Mission.
Earlier in the year a delegation of US Sikhs from California had a meeting with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) regarding the installation of an impressive solar power project in Amritsar.
It was discussed, that the project of installing a solar power system at Sri Darbar Sahib complex will be completed in 4 to 5 monhts.
“Our mission is to ensure clean power supply round the clock at Sri Darbar Sahib, saving 33% of its annual electricity bill,” the United Sikh Mission President Rashpal Singh Dhindsa told the media.
The step is towards sustainability and for reducing global warming that would help save 2000 tonnes of CO2 emission.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Bibi Jagir Kaur expressed her gratitude saying, a 78 KW solar power plant would be installed soon in Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh and 700 KW in Bir Baba Budha Sahib Gurdwara.
She further urged the global Sikh community to contribute towards the initiative of empowering Darbar Sahib with renewable energy.
