Konkan Railway makes Rs 31 lakh savings in two years by installing rooftop solar power at Madgaon station.
An official stated that Konkan Railway Corporation Limited has saved more than Rs 31 lakh since installing a rooftop solar energy generation system of 180-KW at Madgaon railway station, South Goa almost two years ago.
Baban Ghatge, KRCL’s Deputy general manager, spoke to PTI. He said that In January 2021, the grid-connected solar power generator system was installed at the station. Since the commissioning of the project, the corporation has saved Rs 31,37,536. The project covers 1,235 square metres and is located on the roof of two sheds of Madgaon’s railway station platforms. He stated that the former South Goa Member to Parliament Narendra Sawaikar sponsored the system at a cost of Rs 1.32 Crore in 2019.
This project provides more than 30% of the power requirements for Madgaon railway station. Ghatge stated that the project is expected to return investment in seven years.
He added that the project has produced 4,53,404 units electricity since its commissioning.
Earlier in the month of August A request for proposals has been published by Konkan Railway Corporation for the construction of a 5 MW grid-connected ground-mounted solar installation. The tender is expected to cost a total of Rs. 26.62 crores. The cost of the tender has been fixed for 25 years at Rs. 3.10/kWh.
