NTPC Sets Global Operational Benchmarks in Sustainable Power Generation: Shri RK Singh

“India is committed in providing reliable and affordable electricity supply to all people, while keeping environment concerns at the core priority,” said Shri R.K. Singh, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister (Power, New & Renewable Energy), during the inaugural ceremony for the three-day international O&M conference, Indian Power Stations 2023, being hosted by NTPC Limited at Raipur, Chhattisgarh. During his address to the audience, he praised NTPC Limited’s achievements by saying that “NTPC Limited has established global operational benchmarks in terms its performance, culture and progress.”

Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar Hon’ble Minister, State of Power, commented on the contributions of NTPC Limited to the energy sector. He said that “The efforts made by NTPC so far have been commendable.” It is important to address certain issues as the country’s power needs increase. This conference will bring out many interesting ideas that will make a significant contribution to the future of reliable and sustainable power.

NTPC Vindhyachal was the first station to cross 600 + BE and won the coveted Overall Excellence Award. The IPS conference was postponed in the past two years because of the Covid pandemic. This year, the laurels were won by NTPC Singrauli, and NTPC Rihand for stations that have been recognized for Overall Excellence for years 20-21 and 21-22. NTPC Solapur was awarded the Overall Excellence Award for assessment year 22-23 – A special recognition by the jury. These awards were presented by the BUHs of Respective stations and the Regional Executive Directors.

NTPC Korba was awarded the First Runner Up award and NTPC Talcher Kaniha the Second Runner up award. Shri Gurdeep Singh is the CMD NTPC. Shri Ghanshyamprasad is the Chairperson Central Electrical Authority (CEA). Shri VK Dewangan CMD, REC Ltd. Shri D.K. During the felicitation ceremony, Patel was present as Director (HR), Shri Ramesh Babu V as Director (Operation), Shri Ujwal Kanti Bhattacharya as Director (Projects), Shri Jaikumar Srinivasan (Director (Finance)), and other independent directors of NTPC.

Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD NTPC Limited, stated that reliable and sustainable power was more important than PLF, or the generation. As the grid requirements increase, the problems with renewable energy and thermal will only get worse. Safety, reliability and affordability are the top priorities. “We should keep power costs as low as we can.”

The world is going through major changes due to the Covid 19 and the resulting supply chain disruptions that affect global commodity prices. NTPC promises to not compromise on energy availability for the country’s development and maintain a high standard of living for its citizens.

Shri Ghanshyamprasad, CEA Chairperson stated, “The global narrative is to shift away from coal-based energy generation. Every country is on its own path to transition. For a country such as India, coal is the only viable source of energy that will provide a reliable and sustainable source of energy.

Shri V Ramesh Babu (Director, Operations), NTPC spoke at the event. He stressed the importance of generating reliable power at affordable prices. This is done by optimizing multiple energy resources and using innovative eco-friendly technology. These efforts contribute to economic development and social upliftment.
