NTPC REL Invites Bids for 9000 MWh Energy Storage Solutions in India

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) has invited eligible bidders to participate in a Global Competitive Bidding Process for the selection of developers for ISTS Connected Energy Storage Solutions in India.

The aim is to meet NTPC REL’s Renewable Energy Round the Clock/Peak Power Requirements by complementing with wind/solar generation profile under Service Model. The energy storage solution should have a minimum capacity of 1500 MW and a total energy storage capacity of 9000 MWh, with a project size of at least 600 MWh and 100 MW capacity.

The developer will set up the project on Build Own Operate (BOO) basis, and the selected bidder will enter into an energy storage service agreement with NTPC REL on an annual fixed charge basis for a period of 25 years. The bidding process will have two envelopes: Techno-Commercial Bid and Price Bid. After the bidding process, an e-Reverse Auction will follow.

The charging of the energy storage system will come from any of NTPC REL’s renewable energy projects. NTPC REL will use the energy storage facility to meet its RE-RTC and/or Peak Power Requirements power requirement during peak and off-peak hours on an “On-Demand” basis. Already commissioned projects are not eligible, but projects under construction or not yet commissioned will be considered if they are not already accepted under any other Central or State Schemes. Enhancement and augmentation of already commissioned Projects, irrespective of their capacities will not be considered as eligible Project under this scheme.

The last date and time for the receipt of bids, which includes both the Techno-Commercial Bid and Price Bid, is set on June 16, 2023, at 3:00 PM (IST). The opening of the Techno-Commercial Bid will follow right after, at 3:30 PM (IST) on the same day. Bidders are advised to submit their bids within the given timeframe to be considered for the project.
