The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has designated SJVN Ltd, a Miniratna, Category-I PSU, as a Renewable Energy Implementing Agency (REIA). SJVN had requested this categorization from the ministry.
As per the official order dated April 24, SJVN will now act as an intermediary procurer/REIA under the Electricity Act, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (Connectivity and General Network Access to the Inter-State Transmission System) Regulations, 2022, and Guidelines issued by the Central Government for Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding Process for Procurement of Renewable Power.
According to the order, SJVN will have to co-ordinate with other REIAs such as SECI, NTPC, and NHPC for floating tenders and opening of bids to avoid concurrent bids for similar projects.
The MNRE has prepared a roadmap for bidding out 50 GW of RE projects every year to achieve the target of installing 500 GW of RE projects by 2030. SJVN will have to float bids in accordance with relevant Standard Bidding Guidelines issued by the Government and abide by MNRE’s advice related to tenders for renewable energy projects.
This move is a part of the government’s efforts to encourage the development of renewable energy infrastructure in the country.
