NLC India Limited, a prominent Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking operating under the Ministry of Coal, has taken a significant step towards renewable energy initiatives by establishing a wholly owned subsidiary named NLC India Green Energy Limited (NIGEL). This strategic move is intended to accelerate the development of renewable energy projects.
During NIGEL’s inaugural board meeting, key managerial appointments were approved, and the company’s logo was officially adopted. Shri. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, the Chairman of NIGEL, emphasized the subsidiary’s focus on renewable energy projects, stating that this dedicated approach will expedite the growth of renewable energy generation capacity. With a positive outlook in the industry, NIGEL will actively contribute to the expansion of renewable energy sources, including storage systems such as Pumped Hydro Systems and Battery Energy Storage Systems.
Furthermore, in alignment with the Optimal Energy Mix Report 2030 published by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) under the Ministry of Power, NIGEL aims to tap into the significant potential of grid-based Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with an estimated capacity of approximately 41.65 GW.
NIGEL is committed to establishing renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 6 GW by the year 2030, with projects already underway, accounting for 2 GW across various regions of the country. This forward-looking endeavor is set to bolster India’s renewable energy sector and contribute to a sustainable energy future.
