In a significant development in the realm of renewable energy, Chhattisgarh has proudly inaugurated the country’s largest battery energy storage system-based solar power plant. Situated in the hilly region encompassing four to five villages near Gram Dhaba on Dongargarh Road in Rajnandgaon district, this pioneering initiative marks a significant stride towards sustainable energy solutions.
The distinguishing feature of this cutting-edge facility lies in its utilization of 239,000 bifacial solar panels, each boasting a capacity of 660 watts. This advanced setup ensures round-the-clock power supply, even during nighttime, courtesy of the integrated battery system. With a staggering production of over 500,000 units of electricity daily, this solar park is projected to curtail approximately 450,000 metric tons of carbon emissions, thereby championing the cause of green energy.
The ambitious project, spearheaded by the Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA), was initiated in 2016 with the aim of harnessing the vast potential of the Baron hill area in Rajnandgaon district. Through meticulous planning and execution, CREDA, in collaboration with the Solar Corporation of India (SECI) and Chhattisgarh Power Distribution Company, has brought to fruition a groundbreaking 100-megawatt on-grid solar power plant.
This monumental endeavor, with a total project cost amounting to Rs 960 crore, is poised to serve as a beacon of inspiration for future ventures in the field of solar energy, both at the national and state levels. By leveraging renewable resources and fostering innovation, Chhattisgarh sets a commendable example for sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
