Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) played a prominent role at the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024, as its MD & CEO, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, engaged with senior officials from local and international entities, delivering a keynote speech on the “Future Global Transformations in the Energy Sector” under the summit’s theme, ‘Shaping Future Governments.’

During the summit, Al Tayer emphasized the imperative of converting challenges in the energy sector into opportunities for achieving a greener transition, sustainable development, and prosperity. He delved into factors influencing energy markets, proposed effective solutions for decarbonization, and highlighted the significance of research and development in advancing the clean and renewable energy sector.

In a meeting with HE Abdullah Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, Al Tayer aimed to enhance cooperation and accelerate the transition to clean energy sources while preserving precious natural resources.

Another key interaction involved discussions with Omar Abdullah Al Futtaim, Vice Chairman & CEO of Al-Futtaim Group. The focus was on collaboration between DEWA and Al-Futtaim Group, particularly in the realms of renewable energy and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Cybersecurity took center stage during Al Tayer’s meeting with Eugene Kaspersky, Founder and CEO of Kaspersky, a global IT security company. The discussion revolved around mutual collaboration to build a safe and reliable digital infrastructure. The two leaders emphasized the growing importance of cybersecurity in the face of technological advancements and the accelerated growth of smart transformation and IoT technologies.

Al Tayer’s engagement with Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia Corporation, a global leader in digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI), centered on mutual cooperation to leverage AI capabilities in green data centers.

In another meeting, Al Tayer discussed innovation and the significance of remote work technologies in business continuity with Aparna Bawa, Chief Operating Officer of Zoom, a global company specializing in video conferencing.

As the Sustainable Energy Partner at WGS, DEWA showcased its clean and renewable energy projects, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park with a planned capacity exceeding 5,000MW by 2030. Other highlighted projects included the pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta, the first of its kind in the GCC, with a planned capacity of 250MW, and various innovative initiatives in the clean and renewable energy sector. DEWA’s active participation underscored its commitment to leading the charge towards a sustainable and green future.
