Plaksha University, known for its innovative approach to technology education and research in India, has recently inaugurated the Indorama Ventures Center for Clean Energy. This initiative marks one of the university’s pioneering research centers, dedicated to spearheading the shift towards clean energy through comprehensive research and education. The center aims to support India’s journey towards achieving a net zero-carbon footprint, emphasizing energy self-reliance and security.
The Indorama Ventures Center for Clean Energy is set to play a crucial role in the global movement to cut down carbon emissions. Its strategy includes fostering collaborations with industry and government bodies, alongside launching public awareness drives on clean energy. Currently, the center’s research priorities encompass Smart Homes, District Cooling with thermal storage, and Urban Heat Island (UHI) mitigation, addressing key aspects of energy efficiency and sustainable living.
Prof. Rudra Pratap, the Founding Vice Chancellor of Plaksha University, highlighted the university’s commitment to addressing significant societal challenges through research. He emphasized the center’s focus on energy efficiency, the decarbonization of the energy sector, and renewable energy innovations. Prof. Pratap stressed the importance of industry collaboration to translate research into societal benefits.
Prof. Vishal Garg, Director of the Indorama Ventures Center for Clean Energy, shared insights into the center’s mission of decarbonizing India’s energy sector and enhancing grid security. He underscored the center’s approach of using the campus as a ‘living lab’ to pioneer decarbonization efforts in residential energy use and urban cooling, aiming for widespread clean energy adoption supported by technology, economic viability, and policy.
Suchitra Lohia, from Indorama Ventures’ Board of Directors and Deputy Group CEO, expressed the partnership’s alignment with sustainability goals. She emphasized clean energy as a collective imperative beyond corporate interests, highlighting the mutual benefits for all stakeholders.
Ahead of the launch, Plaksha University hosted discussions involving leaders from industry, academia, and policy-making on energy transition and decarbonization strategies. These forums produced valuable insights for research direction, capacity building, and fostering startups in the energy sector, demonstrating a collective commitment to sustainable and equitable energy solutions.
