Mojtaba Akbari, the ministry’s director for International Affairs, highlighted the plan to connect the electricity grids of both nations as a key step in bolstering their cooperation in the energy realm.

Under President Ebrahim Raisi’s administration, significant progress has been made in advancing the linkage of Iran and Qatar’s electricity grids, Akbari noted.

Furthermore, the head of Qatar Electricity and Water Company has expressed interest in broadening cooperation with Iran, particularly in wastewater management and solar energy systems.

To formalize these initiatives, Iranian energy officials are scheduled to visit Doha later this month to finalize agreements in the relevant sectors.

Akbari emphasized that capable Iranian firms will serve as consultants for the construction of solar farms in Qatar, with direct discussions already underway between Qatari authorities and Iranian knowledge-based companies.

The collaboration between Iran and Qatar received a significant boost in December 2023 when the two countries signed a comprehensive cooperation document. This agreement, signed by the respective energy ministers, underscores cooperation across various energy sectors, including water and wastewater, electricity, oil, gas, and the environment.

Additionally, the document highlights the exchange of technical knowledge, hosting joint events such as exhibitions and specialized training courses, and facilitating collaborations between private sector entities involved in consulting, contracting, and industrial production related to the electricity industry.

Overall, the agreement signals a commitment to expanding bilateral relations and fostering mutual development in the energy sector between Iran and Qatar.
