Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, voiced Jordan’s ambition to harness renewable energy technology and capitalize on the energy transition opportunities to position the country as a regional hub for green energy production and export.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the Solar Innovators Challenge competition organized by the Young Engineers and Electrical Media Committee at the Jordanian Engineers Association (JEA), Kharabsheh expressed optimism about Jordan’s potential to play a significant role in scientific and technological advancement, not only in energy but across various sectors.
Highlighting green hydrogen as a pivotal element for future energy needs, Kharabsheh emphasized Jordan’s commitment to local production, consumption, and export of this promising fuel source.
Ahmad Samara Zoubi, President of JEA, underscored the importance of JEA’s electrical engineering division in fostering innovation and advancing modern industries, essential for societal development. With digital transformation shaping global trends, Zoubi emphasized the division’s role in nurturing Jordan’s talent pool, particularly in digital and energy sectors, where the country boasts commendable expertise.
Ali Al-Khawaldeh, head of JEA’s electrical engineering division, emphasized the engineer’s role as innovators in driving sustainability and clean development. He stressed the significance of renewable energy in addressing societal challenges, including those arising from conflicts and inequalities, by enhancing living standards, creating job opportunities, and fostering economic and social equity.
The Solar Innovators Challenge witnessed the participation of 200 recent engineering graduates, culminating in 48 finalists. The competition aimed to propel the photovoltaic energy sector forward, promote sustainability and innovation, and equip participants with the skills needed to excel in the job market.
