Al Jalila Foundation, leading Dubai Health’s philanthropic efforts, has entered into a groundbreaking agreement with Positive Zero, the premier provider of sustainable and decentralized power infrastructure in the Middle East. This collaboration aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions and energy costs, supporting the UAEโs Net Zero Strategy 2050.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), termed as โdecarbonisation-as-a-service,โ is the first of its kind in the UAE healthcare sector. It encompasses all facets of clean energy, including on-site power generation, energy efficiency, and clean mobility solutions.
The signing ceremony took place at the Al Jalila Foundation headquarters. The agreement outlines the creation of a five-year sustainability roadmap to identify optimal decarbonization methods across the foundationโs facilities. This initiative, through fully financed solutions, is expected to achieve up to 50% in cost savings and reduce carbon emissions by 70%.
Under the partnership, Positive Zero will assess current operations, enhance energy efficiency, and optimize energy use through its cooling-as-a-service model. It will also provide clean mobility solutions, including fleet electrification and EV charging infrastructure at the foundationโs headquarters.
This initiative supports the recent Dubai government directive for the public and private sectors to improve energy consumption and efficiency, as detailed in the Dubai Demand Side Management Strategy 2050.
The MoU follows a successful pilot project at Al Jalila Foundation, which involved installing solar rooftop and carport systems through Positive Zeroโs solar energy division, SirajPower. These installations, commissioned in December 2023, have been operational under a 20-year solar lease agreement and have reduced over 3,100 metric tons of carbon emissions annually.
Dr. Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, commented, โAs one of the first non-profits in the region to take serious steps towards sustainability, we have seen significant reductions in our electricity bills thanks to the solar installations. This new decarbonization plan with Positive Zero will provide even greater environmental and economic benefits. We are excited about this long-term partnership and its contribution to Dubai Healthโs broader sustainability objectives.โ
David Auriau, Co-Founder and CEO of Positive Zero, added, โOur initial project with Al Jalila Foundation has shown that distributed solar generation without upfront costs can quickly yield significant savings and emission reductions. By incorporating energy efficiency and clean mobility solutions, the foundation will further advance its sustainability goals and support the countryโs Net Zero mission.โ
Positive Zero will continue to collaborate with Al Jalila Foundation to explore additional opportunities for energy savings and benefits through its integrated platform and Decarbonization-as-a-Service offerings.
