KPI Green Energy Limited has achieved an important milestone in its growth by securing an Inter-State Power Trading Licence (Category IV) from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). The company announced this development on April 16, 2026. This approval marks a major step in its journey as it moves toward becoming a more integrated and flexible renewable energy company with operations across India.

Earlier, KPI Green Energy was mainly involved in power trading within Gujarat under an intra-state licence granted by the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission. With the addition of the new inter-state licence, the company can now trade electricity across different states. This means it is no longer limited to regional operations and can expand its presence nationwide.

The combined use of both state and central licences allows the company to build a strong pan-India power trading platform. This removes geographical restrictions and gives the company more freedom to operate in different electricity markets. It can now supply power to multiple states depending on demand and pricing conditions.

This development brings several strategic benefits. The company can access a wider range of customers, including utilities and industrial buyers in different regions. It also allows better price discovery, as the company can sell electricity in markets where prices are more favorable. This flexibility helps in improving revenue opportunities and efficient use of its renewable energy capacity.

Dr. Faruk G. Patel, Chairman and Managing Director of KPI Green Energy, said that the licence will strengthen the company’s ability to respond to changing market conditions. He added that it will help unlock more value from its renewable energy assets by allowing participation in short-term and exchange-based markets. This will also support the company’s existing long-term power supply agreements.

The move is in line with the broader vision of the KP Group, which has been active since 1994. The group has a presence in solar, wind, hybrid energy, and green hydrogen projects. With this new capability, KPI Green Energy aims to bridge the gap between power generation and distribution across states. Overall, the inter-state trading licence positions the company as a growing player in India’s renewable energy sector and supports its role in the country’s transition toward clean and sustainable power.
