Vindhya Nagar is steadily emerging as a solar-powered hub, with rooftop installations generating approximately 17.19 MW of electricity, according to recent local reports.
As per officials, solar panels have been installed across 5,357 buildings in the district, with the generated power being directly fed into the grid. The initiative is being driven under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, aimed at accelerating rooftop solar adoption and reducing household electricity costs.
Authorities revealed that around 13,169 residents have applied for rooftop solar installations, reflecting strong public participation. The program is being implemented with support from the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency, which is facilitating installations under subsidy-backed schemes.
Under the initiative, consumers can install solar panels at an estimated cost of ₹65,000 per kilowatt, with government subsidies of up to ₹45,000 provided as financial assistance. So far, subsidies have been disbursed to over 4,663 beneficiaries directly into their bank accounts.
Officials also highlighted that solar systems are being installed on both government and semi-government buildings, enhancing institutional adoption. In a further push toward sustainability, a proposal worth ₹1 crore has been submitted to develop a “solar model village” in the Harsar area, signaling a broader strategy to scale decentralized renewable energy infrastructure across the region.
