PT PLN (Persero) is advancing the transformation of Indonesiaโ€™s mining sector by expanding the use of green electricity and integrated power solutions through strategic collaborations with leading coal producers.

The initiative includes the signing of multiple Power Purchase Agreements (PJBTL) and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at supporting the adoption of sustainable mining practices. Under the agreements, PLN will supply electricity to several mining companies, including PT Trubaindo Coal Mining (30 MVA), PT Sembada Makmur Sejahtera (55 MVA), PT Marga Bara Jaya (35 MVA), PT Maruwai Coal (71 MVA), PT Makmur Sejahtera Wisesa (106 MVA), and PT Berau Coal (29 MVA).

In addition to power supply agreements, PLN is collaborating on integrated business solutions through its subsidiaries. This includes partnerships with PT Masmindo Dwi Area for the development of customer installations and substations, as well as projects with PT Maruwai Coal and PT Sembada Makmur Sejahtera for high-voltage infrastructure development and engineering design.

Officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources highlighted electrification of heavy equipment as a critical step in reducing emissions in mining operations, particularly in energy-intensive hauling activities. The transition from diesel to electricity is also expected to deliver significant cost savings for mining operators.

PLNโ€™s Director of Retail and Commerce, Adi Priyanto, stated that green mining initiatives are essential for reducing emissions while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the mining industry. Meanwhile, Dini Sulistyawati, Executive Vice President of Sales and Enterprise Customer Service, emphasised that electrification during hauling operations can significantly improve efficiency and lower environmental impact.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, with Indonesian Coal Mining Association acknowledging the collaboration as a key step toward strengthening sustainability in the sector.

PLN customer PT Borneo Indobara also confirmed plans to develop electrical infrastructure in partnership with PLN to support the deployment of electric heavy equipment, including charging facilities for up to 700 electric trucks.
