The 3rd Edition of Solar & Storage Zambia 2026 successfully convened policymakers, utilities, financiers, developers, EPCs, technology providers, and renewable energy stakeholders in Lusaka for a focused day of dialogue, collaboration, and market engagement around Zambia’s evolving clean energy landscape.

Held at Best Western Plus Paramount Hotel, the conference brought together key public and private sector stakeholders at a pivotal moment for Zambia’s energy sector, as the country accelerates solar deployment, strengthens grid resilience, and advances investment into utility-scale and distributed energy infrastructure.

With Zambia increasingly positioning solar and battery storage as central pillars of its long-term energy security strategy, discussions throughout the day reflected a strong industry focus on execution, financing, grid integration, decentralized energy access, and scalable deployment models.

Opening the Dialogue

The conference commenced with inaugural remarks by Chief Guest Mr Winford Simwanza, Principal Electrification Officer, Ministry of Energy, Zambia, who highlighted the country’s growing commitment towards renewable energy expansion, electrification, and sustainable energy development.

This was followed by opening remarks from Guest of Honour Mr Wesley Kaluba, EIZ President & Chairperson, 63rd Engineering Council, who shared valuable perspectives on grid resilience, industrial energy security, and the importance of collaborative action in advancing Zambia’s clean energy future.

The event also featured a keynote address by Mr Albert Halwampa, Director General, Zambia Development Agency, who discussed investment opportunities, policy alignment, and Zambia’s expanding renewable energy ecosystem.

The conference featured a series of techno-commercial presentations from leading companies including Get Off Grid partnered with GoodWe, SAJ Electric, and Sun King, showcasing advancements in solar technologies, storage systems, decentralised energy solutions, and market-ready applications supporting Zambia’s energy transition.

The presentations highlighted the growing role of innovation, smart energy systems, and distributed energy solutions in supporting industrial productivity, improving energy reliability, and expanding clean energy access across Zambia and the wider Southern African region.

Key Discussions Driving Zambia’s Energy Transition

Panel discussions across the conference addressed some of the most pressing themes shaping Zambia’s renewable energy future, including decentralised solar adoption, utility-scale solar and storage deployment, financing mechanisms, and investment readiness.

The first panel discussion explored “Decentralised Solar & Storage for Industrial Growth: Unlocking C&I and Rooftop Markets in Zambia,” focusing on commercial and industrial solar adoption, battery storage integration, distributed energy systems, regulatory bottlenecks, and opportunities for SMEs and industrial parks.

Industry leaders from Zambia Development Agency, Solar Industry Association of Zambia, MBHE African Power Zambia, Ignite Energy Access Zambia, and Zambia Renewable Energy Association contributed insights on policy reform, local manufacturing, EPC development, and the role of distributed solar in improving industrial competitiveness.

The second panel discussion focused on “Scaling Utility-Scale Solar & Storage in Zambia: Grid Resilience, Bankability and Long-Term Energy Security,” examining grid modernisation, large-scale solar deployment, hybrid solar-storage integration, bankable PPAs, and utility collaboration models.

Representatives from Africa GreenCo, Copperbelt Energy Corporation PLC, and MBHE Valley Acres shared perspectives on transmission readiness, utility-scale project execution, and the role of storage in supporting grid stability and reducing hydropower dependency.

The final panel discussion addressed “Mobilising Capital for Zambia’s Energy Transition: Policy Certainty, Investment Confidence and Blended Finance,” with discussions centred on blended finance structures, investor confidence, regulatory clarity, climate finance, and participation from local financial institutions.

Senior stakeholders from Zambia National Commercial Bank Plc, Slagean Energy Ltd, Itezhi Tezhi Power Corporation Limited, and First National Bank Zambia Limited highlighted the importance of innovative financing models, risk mitigation frameworks, and long-term investment certainty in accelerating Zambia’s clean energy transition.

Solar & Storage Zambia Awards 2026

The event concluded with the Solar & Storage Zambia Awards 2026, recognising organisations, institutions, and industry leaders driving innovation, leadership, sustainability, and renewable energy deployment across Zambia.

Honorary Awards were presented to distinguished individuals and institutions including representatives from the, Zambia Development Agency, Solar Industry Association of Zambia, Zambia Renewable Energy Association, and leading industry stakeholders for their contributions toward strengthening Zambia’s renewable energy ecosystem.

Additional awards recognised excellence in solar EPC execution, smart technology innovation, and renewable energy advocacy, celebrating companies and professionals advancing Zambia’s sustainable energy transformation.
