The project will be implemented across the Chapra Circle in Bihar and forms part of the government’s efforts to accelerate residential rooftop solar adoption through utility-led deployment models. The contract covers the design, engineering, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of rooftop solar systems.

The project will be executed under a combination of CAPEX and Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) models through the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) framework. Under this approach, NBPDCL will aggregate residential consumers, enabling large-scale rooftop solar deployment while streamlining project execution.

According to the terms of the award, the project is scheduled to be commissioned within nine months from the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Following commissioning, SUGS Lloyd will be responsible for operating and maintaining the solar installations for a period of ten years.

The contract marks a significant addition to SUGS Lloyd’s renewable energy portfolio as the company continues to expand its presence in India’s distributed solar market. Traditionally engaged in power transmission, distribution, and infrastructure projects, the company has been increasing its focus on clean energy opportunities amid growing demand for rooftop solar solutions.

The award also reflects Bihar’s expanding commitment to decentralized renewable energy deployment. The state has emerged as a key market for rooftop solar development, supported by policy initiatives and the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar programme aimed at increasing solar adoption among residential consumers.

Industry observers note that utility-led aggregation models are gaining traction across India as distribution companies seek to accelerate rooftop solar installations while simplifying customer participation. Such projects are expected to play an important role in achieving the country’s renewable energy and energy transition objectives.

With the latest order, SUGS Lloyd strengthens its position in the rapidly growing residential solar sector while contributing to Bihar’s efforts to expand clean energy access and reduce dependence on conventional power sources.
