Tell us about your experience in the solar industry.

I have been in the solar industry for over 8 years now. I started my career right after my graduation from UNSW in Sydney, Australia in an Electrical company with a focus on solar turnkey projects. Projects involved solar panels, inverters, lithium batteries, generators, etc. So I have a very good grasp of the whole picture and requirements of the sites. I recently joined Trina Solar in Dubai to pursue my career in a perfectly located area for solar energy. At our Dubai office, we are responsible for the African and Middle Eastern markets with offices in different regions to support the local partners and prospects better.

Trina Sola’s new Vertex series with rectangular cells are taking the market by storm. Tell us more about their features.

Indeed. We are, in fact, very proud of these new 210R modules. Currently, we have two modules in this series (435W and 580W). In a nutshell, this series benefits from the advantages of both 210mm and 182mm cell size modules. For instance, they have the same width as 182mm modules, so they are compatible with most of the standard trackers and structures and at the same time they heir their longer length from the 210mm modules; hence they have higher power output and efficiency. It would be out of the scope of this interview to talk in detail about all the benefits but to name a few, high packing efficiency, stiff mechanical performance, higher string power and high compatibility with the inverters and trackers have turned this series amongst the bests in the history of solar panels.

What makes this vertex series with rectangular cells suitable for a region like the Middle East?

One of the key advantages of using Trina Solar Vertex 210R modules is their high string power; thanks to their precise electrical design, you will be able to achieve higher power out of each string and this reduces the need to have a higher number of strings in the total system design. This simply means the user will save money on equipment, structure, cable, freight and even labour.

Additionally, Trina solar 210R modules have higher Power-to-weight ratio compared to 182mm modules; this means that your modules are able to produce more power from a lighter area. Therefore, you wouldn’t need a heavy-duty, very strong and pricey structure to withstand the weight of the module. Again, this means saving for the project stakeholders.

These modules, also, benefit from effective hotspot performance which is quite a peace of mind in a region like the Middle East.

Technology being a key focus area for Trina, what are some technological advancements you are planning for the coming year? Trina Solar is one of the most advanced PV manufacturers of all time.

We have seasoned our R&D skills by working closely with universities all around the world and transformed the knowledge into actual and real products. Trina Solar is one of the only companies which are advanced in both N-type and P-type technologies and that gives us the necessary flexibility to have suitable products for each and every application. In the coming year, similar to the past, Trina solar will focus more and more to improve the design, user-friendliness of the products and affordability of solar energy. I believe this is part of Trina Solar’s philosophy to keep pushing for a greener world with newer and more efficient technologies.
